Week 24 Announcements

Week 24 Resources/ Assets

Updated March 15, 2019
Please make sure you READ everything on this page or you will miss important details. I will archive past weeks Announcements pages for a limited time only under their respective Trimesters 1, 2 and 3 tabs, if you need to go back to a particular weeks information for any reason.

Week 23 in Review

We got very close to finishing up Chapter 13 in class. I would like you to complete the reading of the chapter and answering the homework problems on your own. If you are struggling with the material, please take a look at the Professor Dave Explains video for Wave-Particle Duality and the Photoelectric Effect (linked right); he does an excellent job explaining these concepts.

If you are not able to complete your homework entirely, then please email me the problems you are struggling with, and I'll be sure to address those specifically in class.

Please remember you took Quiz #21 home, so make sure you complete this and return on Tuesday, March 19th.

Upcoming Week 24

When you return on the 19th, the Discussion section of your paper will be due. All of you should have already turned in Methods, Results (Data) and Discussion Sections. Here are the due dates for the individual constituents:
  • Tuesday, February 26th - Methods and Results (Data) Section (already turned in)
  • Tuesday, March 12th - Discussion section (already turned in)
  • Tuesday, March 19th - Introduction
  • Tuesday, March 26th - Complete revised paper (if you submit an Abstract, I'll give you some extra credit)
While I will be merciful with respect to IMRAD style and APA format, I will not be so with grammar. You all need to proof read your papers, or have another student/ parent do this - I will provide feedback only on mechanics - not on grammar. Please take time to look at The OWL at Purdue Online Writing Lab website for tips on writing papers in APA format.

You can expect one more paper in this format this Trimester.
If all my chemicals arrive on time, we will perform the Flame Tests laboratory on Tuesday. Please print out this protocol, read it carefully, and bring with you to class.

Once we are done with the lab, we'll move right into Chapter 14 - Chemical Periodicity. It is divided into the following sections:
  • Section 1: Classification of the Elements
  • Section 2: Professor Dave Explains Periodic Trends
PRINT OUT the worksheets for Chapter 14 (linked right) BEFORE doing any reading in the chapter. We will be using as an instructional resource for this chapter the Professor Dave Explains video: The Periodic Table: Atomic Radius, Ionization Energy, and Electronegativity (linked right). There are only a few questions on the homework that will require you to read parts of Chapter 14.

Check-off List of Things to Do:

So that  you are properly prepared for classes next week, please make sure you do the following by:
Tuesday, March 19th:
  1. Due in class: Typed Introduction section of scientific paper.
  2. Be prepared to take a quiz covering what we have discussed so far from Chapter 13.
  3. Due in class: Quiz #21 (handed out last Tuesday).
  4. Due in class: Chapter 13 Homework.
  5. Print out and bring to class: Flame Tests laboratory protocol.
  6. Print out and bring to class: Chapter 14 Video Worksheet.
Upcoming Assignments Due
